Rachel Levin
Rachel Levin is the Associate Director of Steven Spielberg's Righteous Persons Foundation, a fund she helped establish in the fall of 1994. Since its inception, the Foundation has made grants totaling over $60 million to projects and organizations seeking to strengthen and revitalize Jewish life in the United States. Among the many initiatives the Foundation has taken the lead on developing is the Fund for Jewish Documentary Filmmaking, a project to support the creation of original documentary films and videos that promote thoughtful consideration of Jewish history, culture, identity, and contemporary issues among diverse public audiences. To date, close to 40 films have received funding, with many being broadcast as well as screened at film festival around the world, including Sundance and Berlin.
Prior to her current position, Rachel worked in politics, both on a California gubernatorial campaign and for the Hollywood Women's Political Committee. In 1992, she joined the staff of the California State Treasurer's Office where she worked on federal and state policy issues.
Rachel is a co-founder of the Joshua Venture: A Fellowship for Jewish Social Entrepreneurs and Reboot, a new effort to engage young creatives and activists in an open examination of their cultural identity. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Hillel Elkins and son Ari.
